Kayden Gray | Man Crush Blog InterviewToday I’m re-launching Man Crush Blog’s popular “Hooking Up With …” exclusive interview series with a true hottie –Kayden Gray. He was number 18 on our 2014 Man Crush of the Year contest. This London stud is tall, hung and has a lot to say. Check out our interview where we talk about everything from porn industry misconceptions to his workout routine.
Man Crush: We always kick off our “hook up” sessions with a round of random questions to make sure you’re awake and ready for what’s to come. What’s your favorite curse word?
Kayden Gray: Dick.
When have you been happiest in life?
I’m actually in a pretty good place now. I haven’t got it all figured out but it’s possibly the happiest I’ve been.
What have you discovered about yourself that’s surprised you since getting involved in the porn industry since you started back in 2013?
I handle public situations a lot better when I’m shirtless!
What’s been your most memorable encounter with a fan or follower since you’ve started in the porn industry?
My birthday sex last year (2014). It was actually a scene with this guy who had followed me on Twitter for a while and who quite possibly will only have done porn just that one time, to score me. It was a compliment and a pretty hot birthday gift.
If you could have an adult encounter with any male celebrity, athlete or media personality, who’d it be and what would your pick up line to him be?
You promise not to tell anybody? [laughs] Maybe Tom Daily. The boy has a killer body. Although I don’t know what I’d say. Quite possibly I would do a ‘Miranda’ and make myself look like a weirdo!

Ok, now for the real tough questions. Let’s talk about sex. You’re pretty hung so most would expect you to top in every scene, though you’ve been known to bottom about as much as you top. How do you choose which position you’re going to take or do the studios tend to come to you for one position over another?
Yes I bottomed in movies a great deal during the first 6 months after I started, and it was because most of the offers I was getting required my ass in the air. Then, in November 2013, I reconsidered whether it was really something I was happy doing, and I haven’t bottomed in porn since, so if you look at all the work I’ve done, I’ve actually topped about twice as much as I’ve bottomed. I do it in private though and may do again in porn, when it feels right.
What’s a big misconception you had about the porn industry before you got involved in it?
Like most people, I believed a whole bunch of stereotypes, biggest of them probably that a simple cocktail of good physical assets  like “body plus face plus cock and ass” constitutes the perfect ‘porn star’ recipe. When you look around the industry, you realize it’s filled with those goods so, as crucial as they are, they’re enough only to cover the ‘porn-‘ part of the deal. It takes a lot more to make a star.
Kayden Gray | Man Crush Blog InterviewHanging on that subject a little, in your opinion, what separates a simple porn performer or model from an all-out porn star? What do you aspire to be known as in the industry?
Personally, as I said before, I think it takes a great deal more than an outstanding appearance to make a mark in porn. The industry has become super competitive in the recent years and it’s quite apparent that if you want to stand out, your public persona needs to be supported by whatever you’ve got that makes you special and unforgettable that’s also relevant to you as a performer and others can relate to.
My plan is to continue being a performer, as well as eventually become a director and producer. And as for legacy, big dick aside, I want to be remembered for excellence and I definitely still intend to pick up, penetrate and dump a load all over some of the porn-related stereotypes still standing strong today.
Have you ever found yourself starstruck by any of your scene partners? Who’ve you yet to film with that you’d like to shoot with?
While starstruck might be an overstatement, I have certainly had a couple of man-crushes, including Jack Green and Danny Montero.  Those encounters produced some of THEEE hottest scenes I have ever filmed and they’ve also yet to be released by the Eurocreme Group. Examples of models I haven’t and would love to shoot with are: Jan Faust, Armond Rizzo, Colton Grey, and unchangeably Jim Kerouac, Adam Archuletta and Austin Wilde.
A hot-button topic surrounding the porn industry these days is the shift in bareback or raw scenes. A few years ago this was looked down on and within the last year or so it’s becoming increasingly harder for studios not to embrace bareback in some way. What’s your feeling about barebacking? Do you think studios and performers play any role in the public’s perception and treatment of barebacking?
What a million dollar question. Well, it’s impossible to deny–it’s happening and it sure translates directly into the work adult models get approached with these days. I actually find the term ‘treatment’ used here slightly ironic, too. Of course I do know what you meant is just how people relate to the issue but it reminds me some conversations I’ve had and statements I’ve heard and I can’t help but think that bareback has lately become the new ‘gay’!
It’s being frowned upon by many people, including the ‘closeted’ lovers of it, just like being gay has been, while I honesty don’t believe things are as black-and-white as that. I don’t think unprotected sex, similarly to homosexuality, is something that needs treatment itself or can be eliminated. Fucking raw is undeniably the most natural way of sharing a sexual experience, which explains the growing demand for it in porn. It is obviously quite likely to have implications on your well-being, especially if you don’t know much about sexual health, and this is where sexual education should come in, but it’s unavailability, inadequacy or people’s lack of interest in it all make it very easy for porn to take that place in the lives of many guys.
And then here we are, having a interview for an adult entertainment blog sounding like a political debate. All in all, I do think our industry plays a part in how bareback sex is handled and that it should be approached with caution, but I also see the responsibility that’s been placed on porn as a ‘sex educator’, as exaggerated and an excuse to remain ignorant.

Kayden Gray | Man Crush Blog InterviewYou have an amazingly lean and defined body. What does it take to stay as fit and in shape as you do?
Thank you. If I’m honest, I hear someone loves me about as often as hates me for looking like I do, often probably thinking it comes easily. The truth is until I was 24 or 25 I was extremely skinny and I’ve had to revolutionize my once poor eating habits and do a lot of gymming to achieve my current weight. I do the usual: weights, cardio, protein and a lot of sleep, but I also practice tricks like always taking the stairs instead of lifts, which you get to do a lot of in London, and taking a multitude of supplements, like amino acids, minerals and vitamins. I’m still nowhere near done improving and hope it will continue showing.

What’s your favorite exercise to do that everyone needs to be doing?
That’s easy–wide and close grip push-ups daily, including days other than chest days, even on rest days. If you have naturally small pecs especially around your sternum, it’s a good way to keep them active and allows you to lift heavier weights at the gym.
What’s the best piece of fitness or health advice you’ve been given that everyone needs to hear?
There are two fitness tips that have especially worked for me:  One, Work out like you’re a superhero and two, remember you’re not, and listen when your body screams STOP. Injuries can discourage even the best of us. As for general health–test regularly and know your HIV status!
It’s hard not to notice your hot torso, from the pecs to the abs–it looks like you spend a lot of time working out your upper body. What’s your core or chest routine like?
Ha, thanks! You guys are really spoiling me here! [winks] I have a huge thing for torsos so I guess self-scrutiny plays a huge part in how I see mine. I push myself extra hard when I do chest and as for my abs I’m pretty lucky but I do work my core as well. My favourite exercise for that is the plank and I can last a good few minutes. My record is 8.
What’s your least favorite exercise or workout to get through and how do you motivate yourself to charge through it anyway?
Leg day. Period. I’ve caused myself a couple of injuries in the past. They got all better when I started taking the right supplements but it’s left me pretty cautious. My motivation is simple–music, caffeine and guys with bodies looking better than mine.
Kayden Gray | Man Crush Blog InterviewWhat’s the one question you get asked all the time that you’re tired of hearing?
Two questions, actually: “How much do you get per scene?” and “Do you have to be high when you film porn?”
Who are you outside of the porn? Who’s the man behind Kayden Gray?
I suppose when you follow me online you get some idea of what I’m like as I am pretty extroverted but there is a lot more to me than meets the eye and I find it interesting that that surprises some people. In private I’m also very sexual, only I don’t necessarily approach sex the same way. I mess around a lot and can be extremely outrageous and confrontational but I’m definitely a lot kinder than portrayed in some movies. I come from a catholic background but I’m agnostic and increasingly open-minded. I don’t tend to play games. I despise injustice. I appreciate wit, obsess over food, care about my friends, exfoliate, recycle, love coffee, hate waiting!
What’s your biggest regret in life so far?
Allowing people who didn’t believe in me affect my own perception of me.
What are your interests outside of porn? When you get to the point where you’re ready to step out of the industry and do something different, what do you see yourself doing and getting involved in?
I have always loved music. I would see myself writing again sometime in the future, although not necessarily after porn, as I currently have no intention of working outside of the industry.
You get the final word! What parting message would you like to leave with your fans and followers?
I would love to say thank you to all the wonderful people who have shown me love and kindness on my social media and outside of them over the past two years. I think about you guys a lot and I’m really grateful! I’ve also heard a damn good piece of advice lately which goes “Figure out what you want and learn how to ask for it.” Wishing you all exactly that and all the very best. Much love!
